Have you ever been given a diagnosis that you haven’t been able to recover from?
Or have you felt frustrated that you take longer to heal than others?
In this series, we have explored various reasons healing can take longer than we’d like. Taking time to understand subconscious barriers like Fear of failure or success, Feeling Unworthy and even our Ego can help us work out what is standing in the way of alignment with healing.
And, there is one last, very common subconscious barrier to healing which affects most people.
This is lack of faith or trust and there are three ways that it can happen.
1. Lack of trust that effective methods exist
We’ve talked about this in previous parts of this series – the way we are traditionally taught by Western medicine not to trust alternative medicine because it “lacks scientific evidence”. It leaves us mired in the belief that only Western medicine is valid.
This is simply not true. I have a PhD in neuroscience and have seen very good research evidence from alternative medicine. Unfortunately, a lot of it gets left out of the American Medical Association approved databases. It’s also difficult to find in the literature because there are so many types of energy medicine.
But there are at least 275 studies in energy psychology alone in peer reviewed journals, and well over 600 in energy medicine. For more on the evidence behind energy medicine, check out my article Debunking the Myth That There is No Science Behind Energy Medicine.
Sadly, there is a concerted effort by skeptics to debunk alternative medicine. You can find out more about this by watching CBS news reporter, Sharyl Attkissson’s Ted-X Talk called Astroturf and the Manipulation of Media Messages.
Remember, the more you open your mind to alternatives the more choices you’ll have.
2. Lack of trust that there are people who can help
You may relate to this if you have a hard time trusting others. I did because I grew up in relationships that weren’t stable. I had a hard time trusting others would be there for me, so I ended up feeling that I had to do everything myself.

To break the pattern of not being able to trust others, you must release that trauma from your past.
But that alone isn’t enough to restore trust.
For positive intimate relationships it is important to understand the anatomy of trust.
In Brene Brown’s videos she discusses the elements required to have a trusting and intimate relationship and tells us how we can develop more trust in our friendships.
So, there are two things to work on. First, release the trauma of your past connected to relationships where trust has been lacking or you’ve been betrayed. Secondly, learn about the anatomy of trust and how you can build more trusting relationships in the future.
3. Lack of trust that the world will support your success
This relates to you if you are the sort of person who gets discouraged easily or you’re rarely willing to give things a fair chance.
Another feature of this is having a hard time acknowledging your progress or celebrating your success.
If we are pessimistic and don’t believe we can succeed whether it’s in our health, wealth or happiness – we won’t. This is often because we have already put negative energy into it.
For more on this, check out my article, The Power of Believing You Can Improve, which is based on a TED talk by Carol Dweck.
In her talk, Dr. Dweck describes her amazing research when she changed the mindset of young children in disadvantaged communities. When she taught them that they could improve, they became diligent in school and went from the bottom of their school districts to the very top.
You have to trust that you deserve to be healthy
Don’t let your mind get in the way of what’s possible.
Believing the world is going to be there to support you allows you to be in alignment with that idea.
When you have the belief and drive that you can get better, you will do what it takes to meet your healing goals.
Now you know the subconscious blocks to healing
